If you were lucky enough to attend the Moscow Museum of Modern Art's first solo exhibition of Spanish artist Edgar Plans, in collaboration with Padre Gallery, supported by the Embassy of Spain in Moscow, you would have been in for a treat!

The exhibit showcased a selection of 100 works from Plans' renowned Animal Heroes series, which highlighted imaginary characters integral to the context of present-day city life and their fight against real-life problems. Plans' characters were presented in all kinds of formats, from huge diptychs to an extensive collection of drawings and sketches. Visitors could also follow the creative process of each piece of artwork, from a small idea jotted down in a notebook to the final result.
Plans' notebooks were also on display, which revealed his dynamic and rebellious mind and creativity. Large-format creations were also made specifically for the exhibition to showcase the artist's mind and thought process.

The characters inspired by Plans' illustration books and animated films revealed human acts against the planet and other human beings. The paintings, even the wax scratches on the backgrounds, his formulas, his ironic language, and the characters and animals in his paintings all had a meaning. The exhibition showcased Plans' exploration of space and different formats, with his animal heroes even arriving in space!
Plans drew inspiration from comics, street art, and urban art, as well as children's art. He admired the complete freedom of expression in children's art and incorporated it into his own work.

Overall, the exhibition was a thought-provoking and fascinating insight into the mind and creativity of Edgar Plans.
